Between Rarity and Commercialization

It's around 6am now and I haven't gone to bed. Those who know me well already know this is as normal for me as the cat I used to have that gives out 'silent killer' farts. No, really.

One thing that I just have to blog out before I hit the cushion jungle is how much great music out there that I'm deprived of here in this country. No, no, I'm serious here.

You know whenever you talk to a kid in the US or wherever, they'd be telling you that they listen to all this underground bad-ass bands that you've never heard of? I'd be wishing that I know what their music sounds like. When I turn on either Energy X radio or ChronixAgression radio on iTunes and I get all these fantastic music played by bands I have never even had the slightest clue existed.

These bands don't have as much exposure as their more 'succesful' counterparts and yet there they are getting their songs played on a radio, and they sound just as good as any other band, maybe even better.

Yet, I know that these bands might not be 'underground' or whatnot, it's just that their fanbase is only limited to their state, or country the most. Yes, obviously if it was otherwise we would be hearing it on Hitz.fm non-stop and be titled the new sensation etc, and be overplayed and then forgotten in a few months...

I guess the message my mind is trying to get across 6am in the morning here is, that I would like for these awesome music to be more widely available, but to get that is to lose the novelty and to be easily forgotten.

Argh... I think I'll stick to iTunes for now.

Good Morning.

Yes I get edgy when I see people talk about local music and not get off their asses to see them, or at least get acquainted.

Like, hello, remember that time I was saying y'know come to the Battle Of The Bands or something, yo, or some of those many gigs I go to? And now you're proclaiming your newfound discovery.

At the very least effort you could tune in to 103.0FM. Endure the Malay ballads, and you will find John's Mistress, Prana and many others. Heck, I even like Giegel's A-minor rock.

I'm sure you shut off the part where they say, "Oh, I heard of The New Black Ringers from my KaZaA buddy."

Hmmm... alright sorry if my post might've led you to think something else but at 6am that morning my mind was actually talking about non-local english music. If I wanted local English music I'd be popping in CDs or listen to XFresh.tv (sorry but xfresh.fm cannotlahhh). Fine you might think I'm not 'underground' here, but I don't think bands here are THAT underground either.

Man quit draggin' those stories of me not being able to go to Battles and Fests. So I can't do your religious musical excursions that ends up being translated into words and pictures in your blog later. Maaflah kalau kawasan perumahan saya tak ada transportasi awam dan saya tak boleh pandu kereta keluar dari rumah, k?

Damn, why did I type that in Malay? Must be influenced by Xfresh.fm...

"Yes I get edgy..." <-- Don't steal my line starters, yo

"And now you're proclaiming your newfound discovery." <-- what do you mean, man?

How do you listen to Xfresh.TV? hitz.tv you mean. hitz.tv does play local music, limited to those who have recorded their video in the TV studio.

There are underground bands whose music is playing on Xfresh FM. Underground in the sense that I have never heard their songs or their band name. Yes, I don't like it that Ruffedge keeps getting rotation, but they get voted, just like I think Disagree is overplayed, even at gigs.

There are plenty of legitimate local underground bands at mp3.com, i-bands.net and even myspace.com. If you insist on paying, go buy mp3s from musiccanteen.com. MusicCanteen's Christmas is also out in stores; that's excellent.

"And now you're proclaiming your newfound discovery." - like as if you just knew that underground bands sounded just as good as any other band, maybe even better.

I can't remember exactly what you said, but there was once you sounded like you couldn't be bothered to go for a BOTB and yet seemed interested in going before that. I believe I wasn't the only one who asked, "where's Michelle?"

Oh right hitz.tv, lol

"Like as if you just knew that underground bands sounded just as good as any other band, maybe even better" <-- *whack* no...

"I can't remember exactly what you said, but there was once you sounded like you couldn't be bothered to go for a BOTB and yet seemed interested in going before that" <-- I... don't know how to reply to that paradox :S
