Keys & Needles

I usually plan my future piercings/body modifications a year ahead before I get them. I started getting bod mods since I was 18, on every birthday. I still wish I was able to keep that first piercing of mine, too bad infection got the best of my right eyebrow piercing.

I have started planning on my next bod mod for my 21st birthday. My mother had always wanted to give me a key on my 21st birthday to symbolize giving me freedom in the adult world. Things like a key pendant on a necklace and such has been given thought by her.

Recently, I hatched my own plans.

Ear Project

Instead of continuing my current ear project, I decided to get a key tattooed on myself.

I would be studying in Australia next year when I would be celebrating my 21st birthday. So I will be out there all by myself for the very first time, and come back to Malaysia with a tattoo. How cliche is that? Sounds like a typical parent's nightmare.

A reason I'm considering a tattoo is because, well, I only trust my usual piercer dude and I don't want to suffer in the middle of the semester with a throbbing ear. My next ear project involves piercing a mirror-image twin for my current Orbital, which calculates to a noticable amount of discomfort. I'm not taking that risk in a foreign country.

So yes, a key tattoo from Australia would be a great souvenir, and I hear tattoos from Down Under are great. Time for more research and bod mod networking.

Alright, so a key. What kind of key? Celtic key? My house key? I originally had no idea on what kind of key I wanted, but it had to mean something to me. All my bod mods mean something. I checked out images of keys on the internet. Nothing really caught my eye.

A few years ago I thought of having a tattoo of a cross on my nape. Then not too long ago I planned for a wolf tattoo, but that'll come later as I'm gonna design the wolf myself. Maybe a wolf holding a key in its mouth... nah... A key is small and simple enough for a first tat. Then I recalled the cross I originally wanted.

It's just an idea for now, but to get the Keys of The Vatican tattooed on me would have double meaning. To symbolize my freedom, and me being Catholic.

It's just then that I find out that The Vatican has two keys. One silver and one gold. The gold key is the key to heaven and the silver one the key to the earth. I had planned to get a key tattooed on my hand, and now I might get the two keys on each hand - the keys in my hands to open doors for myself.

That's pretty deep, but I still have a lot of time to think about it.
